Rotator Cuff Dysfunction | Auckland Health and Performance

Rotator Cuff Dysfunction

Better, Stronger, Fitter

What is the rotator cuff and what does it do?

The main function of the rotator cuff is to stabilise the shoulder joint

It consists of 4 small ish muscles that suck the arm bone into the socket of the shoulder blade bone (scapulae)

Rotator cuff dysfunction often presents with

  • Pain sleeping on your shoulder
  • Pain referring to the front of your shoulder
  • Pain lifting things or working above your head

Dysfunction is not present on a scan – it is more a lack of coordination and activation of the shoulder muscles when performing a movement.
