What is the rotator cuff and what does it do?
The main function of the rotator cuff is to stabilise the shoulder joint
It consists of 4 small ish muscles that suck the arm bone into the socket of the shoulder blade bone (scapulae)
Rotator cuff dysfunction often presents with
- Pain sleeping on your shoulder
- Pain referring to the front of your shoulder
- Pain lifting things or working above your head
Dysfunction is not present on a scan – it is more a lack of coordination and activation of the shoulder muscles when performing a movement.
